Arts & Culture

The arts are central to CBN’s programming. CBN’s signature Making Art Work (MAW) arts education program offers classes in painting, drawing, ceramics, printmaking, sewing, quilt making, clothing construction, mixed media, dance, choir, guitar, and more. The program’s tailored services nurture creative expression and promote psychological and physiological benefits associated with regular artistic practice and expression. CBN’s Carter Burden Gallery in Chelsea is the first of its kind in the nation, exclusively exhibiting the significant and vibrant works of professional artists over 60, combatting ageism in the art world and providing the public with greater access to unique artistic perspectives.

Carter Burden Gallery

Located in Chelsea, the Carter Burden Gallery (CBG) is a program of the Carter Burden Network designed to give a voice to New York City's re-emerging older professional artists and to foster a supportive and culturally diverse artist community.

Making Art Work

Making Art Work helps connect older adults within New York City to arts, art culture and art education. Participants are able to engage in art projects, take part in art classes and even partake in an annual fashion show. Additionally, older adults may have a chance to display their art in a gallery located in Manhattan.

Health & Wellness

CBN’s Health and Wellness Program is an actively expanding initiative, offering a full range of workshops, lectures, and exercise classes. Together, these opportunities support older adults in gaining knowledge about their health and adopting healthy behaviors to support falls prevention, prevent and manage chronic illness, and support long-term wellness.

Health & Wellness Programs

The Carter Burden Network provides extensive health and wellness workshops to older adults interested in improving and/or maintaining their health and well-being. We partner with other community-based organizations to provide health services, educational workshops and lectures on health-specific topics.

Support & Discussion Groups

The Carter Burden Network offers support groups, specifically catered towards the Chinese population and women. A Chinese language group helps congregate those who find it difficult to travel to Chinatown to socialize and a women’s discussion group is offered for those interested in women’s issues and related topics.
